The trend of increasing the speed and output of automobile engines has tended to increase demand for high-speed large-capacity dynamometers. Consequently, development and standardization of high-speed series have been carried out including DC, EDDIC and FREC (AC) dynamometers. Particularly for the EDDIC dynamometer, very high-speed machines have been developed for testing racing car engines. Since these versions have attracted general interest they have been arranged into a standard equipment series. For the FREC dynamometer, the VT86DY Series transistor inverter type control unit previously released has been further improved and arranged into the VT87DY Series. At the same time a compact high-speed series has been completed for application to the VT87DY Series. These dynamometers are discussed.
