The CEPT (European Conference of Post and Telecommunications Administrations) has published a number of recommendations used for the type approval of land mobile radio equipment. One of these is Rec. T/R 24-01. The author presents recent work in this field, and more particularly work addressing the implementation of data communications on PMR (private mobile radio) frequencies. He presents some of the basic principles that led to the proposed draft (referred to as Annex VII to CEPT Rec. T/R 24-01), as well as the major management needs, and finally some of the requirements that can be found in the document. This draft includes measurement methods and limits for the characteristics of the equipment as well as higher-level requirements such as identification methods or sharing protocols.
