Ford Aerospace uses the systems approach to design state-of-the-art command centers. Central to the approach is the Ford Aerospace Command Center Laboratory (CCL). The computer systems at the CCL, and the approach used, are described. When all engineering disciplines act in concert, the result is a synergistic engineering methodology for prototyping command centers throughout design and development of the system. The CCL facilitates this synergism by providing an integrated forum for systematic study including the human role, specialized hardware experimentation, and end-to-end simulations which are ultimately used to prototype command centers. Most importantly, decision makers use command center prototypes in realistic scenario situations.
