Aero-engine discs must be demonstrated to have sufficient low cycle fatigue lives. To evaluate the low cycle fatigue lives of aero-engine discs, we have carried out several cyclic spinning tests. During the testing, some discs were burst, and some discs were cracked. Through the experience of the testing, we have developed a technique for detecting the crack initiation of the discs during spinning tests. By using the technique obtained, it is possible to stop driving before the discs would burst. Procedures and obtained data are presented in detail.
