Adhesive usage in the automotive industry has substantially increased during recent years. Advancements in adhesive materials and application technologies have helped to expand the incorporation of adhesives in automotive manufacturing. Adhesive bonding offers several benefits to automotive engineers, such as weight reduction, noise and vibration improvement and better corrosion protection. This paper reviews the current automotive applications of structural and nonstructural adhesives. The substrates discussed include metals, plastics, glass, fabrics, and dissimilar material. Some potential future applications also are presented.
