Advancing technologies in machine tools, manufacturing cells and systems, robotics and super alloy/advanced composite materials have brought new and better high performance finishing tools for the deburring, edge contouring, surface finishing and polishing of high quality, precision aircraft and aerospace parts. Developing and emerging trends in advanced flexible abrasive finishing tools are reviewed as applied to a wide range of complex manufactured piece parts with unusual geometric shapes, contours, close tolerances, extreme hardness and abrasiveness. A number of applications are highlighted with photographs, including detailed technical information relating to the various tool types, shapes, sizes and cutting materials used.
