A detailed mathematical model of 23 degrees of freedom for simulation study of derailment safety of a freight car on transition curves including nonlinear wheel/rail contact geometry, nonlinear creep forces and nonlinear suspension parameters has been established in this paper. Numerical simulation computer programs have been developed and the effects of curve characteristic parameters and vehicle suspension parameters on derailment safety of the freight car have been investigated. Some simulation results were compared with est results qualitatively.
