The need to effectively repair fuel leaks in wet wing aircraft led to the design of a fixturing system by which surface mounted repair patches could be quickly and easily installed, saving time and money. The system was further developed to provide a method for installing surface mounted fasteners to difficult substrates. This paper discusses a wide range of structural adhesives and adhesive/sealants that can be used by the system, which provides consistent bondlines from fastener to fastener, thereby controlling bond strength and reliability.
