The simulation of forced unsteady transonic phenomena in wind tunnels can be realized with very special arrangements only. Two possibilities which have been successfully used in experiments with two-dimensional vortical flows at transonic Mach-numbers are a shock-tube tunnel and a vacuum driven system. With these ducts the problems of generation of single vortices and stretched vortex streets for interaction experiments could be solved. Mainly with the tool of interferometric flow observation shock generation by vortex airfoil interaction and also unsteady separation phenomena have been studied.
