A brief overview of the constraining layer of viscoelastic classed adhesive damping systems showing the operative principles for such systems is presented. Specific limits imposed by the nature of viscoelastic materials and the environment we would like them to operate in as a damping media also will be discussed. A case study will be reviewed on how a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive (psa) was employed as a viscoelastic damping material on disc brakes for automobiles and trucks.
