It is the aim of the paper to discuss the deep sea application of abrasive water jets produced by an injection head. Working in greater water depth causes different demands on the cutting tool: The sensitiveness of the jet against variation of the nozzle sample distance has to be minimized for remote-controlled operation. The influence of the ambient pressure on the cutting efficiency has to be reduced. The state of the cutting tool has to be checked automatically during operation. Using an injection head with high pressure and low water flow rate different parameters like diameter of focusing nozzle and abrasive transport in air and water (slurry) are tested. Their influence on cutting efficiency also in greater water depth is given and discussed.
