The driveline of a passenger car consisting of engine, gearbox, driveshafts and tyres plays as exciter and transmitter of vibrations a predominant part in the vehicle. In this paper, the driveline is to be subjected to closer consideration as a part of the total vehicle system whereby the focus is to be placed on the vibration properties of shafts and joints for front wheel drive vehicles. An account will also be given of a new measuring system by which vibrations in rotating shafts and joints can be measured when the vehicle is in motion.
