The railroad industry in America and Europe have adopted data acquisition system with high sampling rates - Track Geometry Cars-to monitor and assess the status of their perspective track. The importance of maitaining quality track can not be over emphasized since it directly relates to safe and reliable transportation of goods and people; however the attendant cost of achieving track which can perform the expectations is both high and recurring. What is offered, in this paper, is an algorithm to determine track deterioration and track modulus. The algorithm, links experimentally acquired data with finite element analysis for the computation of track moduli, rail bending stresses and deteroration of track. The paper also opens the door to new insights to be gained with respect to train dynamics and consist lading by knowledge of the variation of track modulus.
