The Fuzzy Set concept has widely been applied to automatic control/feedback systems due to its successful approximation and higher tolerance to imprecise decision information. In most Freeway Traffic Management Systems (FTMS), the automatic freeway incident detection systems are designed to use real-time traffic information to detect incident occurence and reduce operational impacts. Since incident detection often relies on information collected from the error-prone field detectors, this study was designed to improve the automatic incident detection problems in many conventional traffic management systems by introduce the 'Fuzzy Set Logics' to take advantage of the enhanced operator users' experience.
