The spray formed by a model planing hull appears different from the full-scale trial spray. In model tests the water surface tension forms a sprayblister. The spray is sensitive to the test velocity and model trim. A similitude parameter STR is introduced based on the spray height, test speed, water density, and surface tension. This parameter allows aggregation ofspray height data from a prismatic model into a single curve. For STR below a critical value, the spray blister breaks down into droplets and the full-scale spray forms. The similitude relationship is used to analyze the spray height measured in different size model tests at the same Froude number. The ratio of spray height to hull depth is shown to be constant.
