The paper explains some developments of techniques for numerical modelling of acoustics, for interior and exterior noise. A recently-implemented method for interpolating the frequency-dependent matrices used in boundary element calculations gives significant reductions in calculation times without serious losses of accuracy. The method is described and illustrated by case studies. The use of contribution analysis in understanding the influences on acoustic response of different parts of a vibrating structure is outlined and the extension of this technique to a full, numerical method for acoustic sensitivity analysis and global structure-acoustic sensitivity analysis is explained. The merits and applicability of finite element and boundary element acoustic models are compared.
