This paper relates the evolution of a design and construction project ofinterest to the engineering community, that of a floating golf green. It also presents technical details on the unique aspects of this project and elucidates the design development process by explaining the evolution of technical criteria and their application to the facility design. A patentedtechnique for construction of a large rigid pontoon from small prefabricated modules is described and final design and construction details are summarized. Numerous naval architecture and engineering tasks covering various disciplines were involved, including: design of steel, concrete, and composit structures; climatology assessment; determination of structural waveloads and mooring loads; design of fixed and adjustable mooring systems; provision of aesthetic design; design of piping systems; and development of weight assessment tools.
