This paper presents an overview of the AEOLUS program, which is a strategic cooperation between the main Dutch space industries and research institutes. The main long term objective of the AEOLUS program is to develop relevant know-how to participate in future development programs on launch- and/or re-entry systems. The AEOLUS partners are active in the fields of study and analyses, ground- and flight testing. To support these activities, tools of the various key-technologies are developed and described in this paper including ground- and flight test facilities. Emphasis in this paper is given to the development of an important ground test facility, the High Temperature Vitiator, which is used for gaining experience with high temperature materials and structures.
