Applications of high thermal conductivity graphite fibers to space structures are discussed in the context of a composite scan mirror and composite battery sleeves. Both structures have competing thermal and structural requirements. The scan mirror design uses the high thermal conductivity graphite to reduce temperature gradients and thereby reduce thermal distortion. The battery sleeves achieve a significant mass savings by using the fiber to replace an aluminum part.
