This paper presents the application of Hinfinite control theory to the design of a robust attitude control law for a small airship. In the first part the dynamics of the airship is discussed. A simple approximation for the aerodynamic damping coefficients is presented. The second part introduces the attitude control system. A straight forward methodology based on mixed sensitivity Hinfinite synthesis to compute a simple time invariant control system is presented. Parameter uncertainties and variations with respect to the linearized model which is used for the synthesis are considered in the control system design. The discussion addresses robust stability and performance.
