In space structures like antennas, highly precise shape control is important and deformation control with actuators is required to remove shape misalignment under manufacturing or shape disturbance by external or thermal loading. Many research works have been performed on active control of dynamic deformation for flexible structures like robot arms. In the case of antenna structures subject to long-term thermal loading or subject to quasistatic loading with a long time period, control of static deformation is indispensable. The present paper deals with a deformation control of a laminated composite plate with distributed piezoelectric actuators under static loading. The study shows the solution method of optimal actuator voltage based on the least squares method in order to minimize the deformation of cantilevered laminated plate under static loading. The effect of actuator placement and the number of actuators on the optimal results is examined for three kinds of static loading where both cases of the tip deflection and overall deflection control are considered. In the case of deformation similar to the first bending, the actuator placement near the clamped edge is effective because of large control effect due to small value of actuator voltage. In the case of deformation similar to the first twisting, actuator placement with more than two actuators in the transverse direction is effective. In the case of deformation similar to the second bending, actuator placement with more than two actuators in the longitudinal direction is effective. In this study, we obtain the optimal voltage for the specified actuator placement. In the following study, we will show the determining method of the optimal actuator placement and the corresponding optimal actuator voltage.
