SIMEX is a finite element (FE) software, for the simulation of sheet metal forming using the inverse method. SIMEX has been developed by SIMTECH in Partnershipp with RENAULT, to enable the engineer, the CAD draftsman the die engineer to quickly and easiliy identify the best solution for the part's design and for the process, in the field of sheet metal forming. This paper gives an overview of the most recent developments inside and around the Finite Element code SIMEX for inverse simulation of sheet metal forming. Added value from inverse sheet metal simulation could be increased thanks to significant progress both in the reproduction of the physical conditions of forming processes, especially in the case of curved blankholder or multi-step operations, and via the integration with optimization techniques and procedures, through which the first results in automated die design have been obtained.
