In this paper, the vibration and its control performance influenced by the existence of engine, seats and passengers were analyzed and the control schemes and their performances were discussed in the process of designing a vehicle active suspension. The following conclusions can be obtained: (1) There is a remarkable difference of vibration response among 4DOF, 6DOF and 8DOF vehicle model on the frequency range sensitive to ride comfort. (2) As engine, seats and passengers have a great influence on the performance of the control system, these factors, especially the engine, should be considered in the design of the controller.
