The future high-speed railway (HSR) of China, which will adopt 'mixed operation of high-speed trains and medium-speed trains', has many characteristics differing with ordinary double-track railway and the HSR of foreign countries. These characteristics cause a series of new problems on organization of train operation. This paper addresses the problem of working out train operation adjustment plan on HSR. Using the achieved research results in the world for reference extensively, we establish an optimization model based on knowledge engineering approach and mathematical programming approach in view of the characteristics of China's HSR. Some flexible, fast strategies and simple algorithms for the model are proposed.
