Piping, during their design life, degrade and loose strength. The loss of strength may be due to corrosion, erosion, initial defects, fatigue or stress corrosion cracking. The defect may lead to structural failure. To improve the strength, an outer sleeve can be used. The calculation of minimum thickness of the outer sleeve under given internal pressure of an offshore riser pipe is presented. Combination of bending stress and hoop stress should be below the allowable stress. The combined interaction ratio should be less than unity.
