According to the characteristics of automatic block system and braking capability of trains on existing Chinese main lines, this paper proposed an automatic train protection system ( ATPS ) with high reliability and perfect performance which is based on advanced technology and suitable for speed-raised passenger and freight trains without changing the existing automatic block system. Finally, to ensure train operation safety and transport efficiency, key issues concerning the design and application of ATPS are discussed.
