The measurement of multiphase flow is complex due to the diversity of well outputs, crude oil types and operating variables. Jiskoot built the first multiphase flowmeters. The company holds licenses for the Imperial College developed Mixmeter and the Texaco developed SmartStar. The SmartStar is designed for applications with high water, variable salinity or high viscosity. The Mixmeter is a second generation compact multiphase meter which can operate over a range of watercuts and gas volume fractions. The Mixmeter operates on the principle of axial flow regime stabilization prior to measurement. The mixer provides effective isolation from installation effects eliminating any measurement bias.
