In recent years, quantity and share of the stainless steel railway car for passengers have been increasing substantially. East Japan Railway Company (JR Higashi-Nihon) constructed Niitsu plant in Niigata prefecture and started the operation last October. In this plant, the most up-to-date equipments for machining, bending, cutting and welding were adopted and installed. Until now, author's company has supplied numerous welding equipments to most of manufacturers of railway car in Japan. Based on their past experiences with welding equipments for Japanese railway car manufacturers, they designed, manufactured and supplied all spot and seam welding equipments for this plant under the consultant of Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Main equipments consists of welding machines for roof-assembling, side wall-assembling and final-assembling in the special division, and stationary spot, stationary seam and portable gun in the standard division. In a view point of welding technique and welding quality, the inverter controlled systems developed were acceped.
