The design and construction of pavement rehabilitation projects is one of the greatest challenges afforded today’s pavement engineers. All project information pertinent to the performance of a pavement section is needed to select, design, and successfully construct a rehabilitation strategy. Case studies of three rehabilitation projects constructed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation are provided. Each case study uses a different rehabilitation strategy. The process for selecting the appropriate requirements for each one is discussed. The pavement performance for each rehabilitated section is reviewed. The pavement performance information is tied back to the original criteria for project strategy selection and design to evaluate the success of the rehabilitation in addressing the issues that necessitated the rehabilitation and providing quality pavement performance.
