The three‐body problem concerns the motion of three material points in gravitational interaction. Unlike the two‐body problem, there is no analytical solution. The problem is said to be restricted when one body has a negligible mass, which is the case of a spacecraft compared to celestial bodies. The restricted third‐body problem admits equilibrium points called Lagrange or libration points and periodic orbits around these points. The families of Halo orbits in the Sun–Earth and Earth–Moon systems are of particular interest for space missions due to their geometric properties and the existence of invariant manifolds allowing transfers at very low costs.
