This chapter attempts to present a complete picture of the overall process of developing a new technology based on an already established standard; in this case IEEE 802.16 standards. The parent technology of AeroMACS is WiMAX that is composed of a selected subset of IEEE 802.16 standard design options. A brief overview of AeroMACS concept development, from a historical perspective, is presented. Subsequently, a short synopsis of few documents that have played important roles in the formation of this modern aviation system is deliberated. AeroMACS can support a wide variety of voice, video, and data communications services for both fixed and mobile scenarios. The current applications that can potentially be provided by AeroMACS in support of airport surface services may be classified into three categories: ATC/ATM and infrastructure applications, AOC services, and Airport authority communication applications.
