In this chapter we briefly review proposed mitigation practices for reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from agriculture. Then, we discuss two case studies using experimental data comparing GHG emissions for (1) composted vs. untreated liquid swine manure, and (2) conventional vs. best management practices (BMP) for soils and crops. The policy options to encourage the deployment of these mitigation measures are then discussed and the importance of considering both the biophysical consequences of the farming practice and the incentives facing the farmer regarding the adoption of the practice are highlighted.
