Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have increased in recent years, with applications ranging from military and law enforcement to civilian and commercial things. However, with the increased use of these devices comes a heightened risk of security threats, including ransomware attacks. This paper analyses ransomware's history, types, special attacks, and protection techniques. In addition, the paper discusses the unique security threats in unmanned aerial vehicles and the potential impact of cyber‐attacks on these devices. The analysis highlights the importance of understanding the various types of ransomwares and implementing effective protection techniques to mitigate the risk of cyber‐attacks on unmanned aerial vehicles. The paper concludes with recommendations for future research in this area, including developing more advanced protection techniques to combat emerging ransomware threats.
