Proper packaging techniques should be followed to ensure that the highest quality product is received after the semen is cooled and shipped. There are several commercially available containers designed for the shipment of cooled semen. Documentation should be included in the shipping container, including the stallion's name and breed registration number, the date and time collected, initial semen motility, amount of progressively motile sperm (PMS) per dose, number of doses shipped, and the name of the mare to be inseminated and her breed registration number. Contact information for the person and facility that collected and processed the semen should also be included.
