In this chapter, we discuss an important application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in providing cellular service as aerial base stations. We study the problem of UAV deployment. The deployment of UAVs plays a key role in the quality of service in such an application. Two typical scenarios are studied. The first scenario is in urban areas, and the UAVs are deployed over streets to avoid collision with buildings. The second scenario is in disaster areas. We formulate several optimization problems to optimize the quality of service provided by the UAVs, and decentralized algorithms are presented to address these problems. Extensive computer simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
