This chapter defines image quality in the context of the book. The concept of image quality attributes is introduced and different categories of attributes are explained. More specifically, the two main categories of image quality attributes used throughout the book are introduced: local and global. The specifics and differences of objective versus subjective image quality assessment methods are also defined.
