Chapter 5 describes the charging control technologies for lithium‐ion batteries. First, the traditional charging method and its deficiencies are presented and analyzed. Then the key indicators for evaluating charging performance are discussed. Calculation of the polarization voltage and its properties in both the time and SOC domains are described. An improved version of the conventional constant current and constant voltage charging method is introduced. Finally, a new charging method that is polarization voltage control based is elaborated.
