The world trend in the development of electrified railway transport is to increase the speed, safety, reliability, and comfort of movement. At a speed of 300 km / h, you can move in a few hours from one European capital to another, but in Russia, at such a speed and in the same time, you cannot cover a third of the entire length. Numerous studies, monitoring of operation, design activities and a sound modern approach show and confirm that traction systems with DC 3 kV and AC 25 kV, 50 Hz have exhausted their growth potential and impede the further development of high-speed and heavy traffic on Russian Railways. An innovative development of the railway infrastructure is required. All components of the traction power supply system require modernization! The lack of a systematic solution to the problems of the development of high-speed and heavy traffic can become an obstacle in the implementation of strategic development programs in terms of "the formation of specialized landfills for heavy freight traffic, on the one hand, and accelerated freight and passenger traffic, on the other." The article describes an innovative approach that systematically solves all these problems!
