The paper considers the results of developing a system for diagnosing the position of the catenary devices, installed on track test cars. In addition, the designed device was compared to the existing solutions. The catenary equipment should provide high quality current collection when passing the electric locomotive pantograph. It is possible, if the catenary devices are correctly adjusted and are in good operating condition. The main parameter subject to control is the catenary devices geometry, in particular, position of the overhead line and the steady brace main interlock plungers in space. In accordance with technical requirements to modern means of diagnostics, the device should be non-contact to provide safety and quality monitoring of the catenary devices state. For diagnostics of the steady braces position, it was suggested to use an overhead line position sensor based on distance gages, which allows carrying out direct non-contact measurements with high precision in any weather conditions and at any time of the day. Output data are represented as the point cloud in the 3D space, which allows, using the dedicated post-processing algorithms, to analyze geometrical characteristics of the catenary devices, located in the sensor view field.
