Diesel electric tug Philadelphia was built by RTC Shipbldg Corp for New York Harbor area service of Pennsylvania Railroad; length is 110 ft; power is from 16-cyl General Motors (Cleveland) diesel engine direct connected to Allis-Chalmers 1090-kw generator, which in turn drives Westinghouse 1380-hp propulsion motor; Farrel-Birmingham reduction gear of 4.132:1 ratio and Ferguson propeller complete propulsion system.
