Features and performance of experimental two-car gas turbine powered train that reached 239 km/hr during speed trials on French Nat Railways; gas turbine used was Turmo III C aircraft engine made by Turbo-meca as used in helicopters; simple single-ratio Minerva mechanical transmission was used with gas turbine; auxiliary diesel engine was used for starting, gas turbine only coming into action at speeds above 40 km/hr; tests with experimental gas turbine train confirmed potential of aircraft gas turbine for railway traction.
