Chemical compositions, mechanical properties, and microstructures of brake shoes were examined in laboratory tests by full-size brake tester and in field tests; results showed that among special cast iron materials, high phosphorus spheroidal graphite iron and boron containing flake graphite iron are suitable for use as brake shoes; high phosphorus spheroidal graphite iron shoe shows improved wear resistivity and large friction coefficient at slow friction speed.
