Fuel and lubricant requirements and related problems of 2-cycle outboard engine; desirability of using commercial lead-containing automotive gasolines is stressed because of availability and price; outboard motor oils should be designed to give satisfactory lubrication and minimize preignition and spark plug fouling when used with these fuels; development of new outboard motor oil formulation; engine tests and field results on leaded fuels confirm that preignition and spark plug fouling can be reduced by use of ethylene dibromide in ashless outboard motor oil.
