Proposal is made that Land Locomotion Laboratory approach to soil vehicle mechanics be modified so that all curve-fitting equations used are based on theoretical analyses approximately valid for incompressible rigid soils; theory of soil-vehicle mechanics is developed into more accurate tool for design and evaluation of cross-country vehicles; suggestions are made for improving basic soil mechanics, including new sinkage equation and method for dealing with slip sinkage; soil vehicle mechanics theory must be based on static equilibrium theory for incompressible soils, used in foundation engineering.
