The objective is to develop the theory of soil vehicle mechanics into a more accurate tool for the design and evaluation of cross country vehicles. Several suggestions for improving the basic soil mechanics are made, including a new sinkage equation and a method for dealing with slip sinkage. The conclusion arrived at is that soil vehicle mechanics theory must be based on the static equilibrium theory for incompressible soils that is used in foundation engineering. (Author)
