Paper is concerned with Synchronous Space Station, designed to exploit communications potential of synchronous satellites and Manned Orbiting Observatory for general astronomy work in space; conceptual configuration for each station is presented; major problem of orbiting observatory is that of establishing high-resolution telescope, properly aligned and figured, in operation in space environment; methods of passive shielding and thermal control; station keeping and attitude control of synchronous space station through use of single ion-engine system and passive techniques.
