Theory of errors is employed to assess precision of guidance system designed to place payload in prescribed circular orbit; subject to certain hypotheses about parameters of vehicle's propulsion and guidance systems at burnout, form of distribution of square of orbital eccentricity is obtained, and several approximations to it are presented; it is indicated how knowledge of this distribution may be used to estimate probability of mission success, and how this quantity may be used to study various questions of interest to system planner.
