Recommended SMS system concept and mode of operation was evolved by Space Systems Div, Republic Aviation Corp; 500-lb configuration can be placed in synchronous, equatorial orbit by Atlas-Agena launch vehicle; meteorological sensors are 1-in. Vidicon camera for overall cloud cover pictures and for limited field-of-view, detailed cloud pictures, miniaturized image orthicon used in conjunction with aiming mirror; 3-axis control system provides stable camera platform and preserves desired earth-orientation for SMS; attitude control, its features and mode of operation.
