Factors affecting jet driven rotor performance; it is shown that relatively high tip speeds required in order to realize reasonable jet efficiency results in considerable reduction in aerodynamic efficiency of rotor; weight saving possible with such drives, and their simplicity, may in certain cases offset their low aerodynamic and propulsive efficiencies; rough comparative performance and weight estimate made between conventional and jet driven helicopter.
