Plasma Radiation Shield is active device using free electrons electric and magnetic fields for purpose of shielding astronauts from energetic solar flare-produced protons; concept of Plasma Radiation Shielding is reviewed in light of current studies; available evidence indicates that concept is physically sound, but important practical questions remain in at least two areas; these have to do with establishment and control of extremely high voltages required, and with integration of concept into realistic space vehicle design.
